Lachung
Lachung is a small town that shines like a morning star at an elevation of 9,610 ft. in North Sikkim. Lachung is situated at a distance of 118 KM from Gangtok and throughout your drive from Gangtok, the meandering river Teesta will accompany you alongside. Rumtek Monastery
This splendid monastery is a sight to the sore eyes, you will witness some of the rarest Buddhist artworks and mural paintings in this three-storeyed spiritual center.
Rumtek Monastery belongs to the Kagyu sect and which was first built in the 12th century but was left to ruin so during 1960 Gyalwa Karmapa who became the 16th Karmapa of the center reestablished it.

Teesta River
Teesta river is the main river of the state of Sikkim and divides its region from that of the state of West Bengal. Covering a total course of 309 km before meeting the mighty Brahmaputra, the river passes through the cities of Rangpo, Jalpaiguri and Kalimpong, where it has a high importance as the main source of living.
Originating from a high altitude lake in the North Sikkim and the Teesta Kangse Glacier at the height of 7068m, the river is also a great source of adventure as there are a number of locations where you can enjoy rafting in the river.

Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple
Perched atop a staggering altitude of 13,123 ft., Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple, otherwise known as Baba Mandir, is cradled right between Nathula and Jelepla Pass. Baba Harbhajan Singh was an Indian Army soldier who had died on duty. His soul is believed to roam the surrounding mountains for nearly 50 years now.
Many have given accounts of the sightings of Baba Harbhajan, who has been spotted keeping a constant vigil at night, and warning the patrolling soldiers against future attacks. Over time, the site has turned into a pilgrim destination and prayers are regularly offered here.

Khangchendzonga National Park
Bestridden by the Western gradients of Mount Kanchenjunga, the Khangchendzonga National Park also known as Kanchenjunga Biosphere Reserve throws a number of surprises along the trekking trails. The trails lead to places like Yuksom, Dzongri, the vast Zemu Glacier, Goechala, Rathang, Bakim, Tshoka, etc.
Stretching out across an area of 850 sq. kilometre, Khangchendzonga National Park is the largest wildlife reserve in Sikkim. The vastness of this green retreat is enriched with the presence of species like the red panda, Himalayan black bear, snow leopard, Tibetan antelope, barking deer, musk deer, flying squirrel and wild ass.

Singalila National Park

Declared as a National Park in 1992, a large area of this park can be covered on your way to Sandakphu and Phalut trek which are also the two highest peak of Singalila, both with a height of more than 11,000 feet.

Namgyal Institute of Tibetology
Founded by the 14th Dalai Lama in the year 1957, Namgyal Institute of Tibetology is center for research and study of everything originated or practiced in Tibet, from clothes to culture and language.
It is located around a distance of 2 kilometers in Deorali, housing a large museum and a resourceful library comprising of a collection of references and study material on Tibet and Himalayas mainly.
The museum located on the first floor features coins, thangkas, valuable statues, ancient manuscript in various languages like Chinese, Sanskrit, Tibetan, and other artifacts. To leaf through one of the largest collection of Tibetan documents, head to the first floor, where the library is.

Tashi View Point
The view of Kanchenjunga peak from Tashi viewpoint is going to sweep you off your feet. Recommended visiting during sunrise to see the bone-white peaks turning golden by the rising sun. The viewpoint is around 8 KM from Gangtok with nearby places being the Phodong and Labrang monasteries and Bakthang waterfall en route.
As you drive from Gangtok to Tashi ends, you will need to make a climb of 115 steps approximately to reach the viewpoint which you can recognize by the throngs of food stalls and hordes of tourists waiting for the sun to rise.

Pemayangtse Monastery
As you drive 110 kilometers west of Gangtok, around 2 kilometers from Pelling, you will spot a yellow Buddhist structure peacefully nestled amid the rich environs of the hills. Pemayangtse Monastery is a three-story structure which was founded by Lama Lhatsun Chempo in 1705.
The name Pemayangtse literally translates to ‘sublime lotus’.The building holds age-old paintings, sculptures, carvings and a collection of Tibetan artifacts. Lookout for Cham festival, the largest monk festival hosted on the 28th and 29th day of the 12th month of Tibetan Calendar.

Singalila
The Singalila Ridge trek is an easy to moderate trek extending from an elevation of 2,134 meters to 3,636 meters. As you reach the top, you unravel some pure sights of Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga peak, Makalu and Lhotse Peak.
The trek starts from Darjeeling heading towards Tonglu via Maneybhanjang continuing to Gairibas and crossing the serpentine trails of Kalapokhri comes to the steep climb that passes through Sandakphu which is the highest peak of Singalila range that lounges at a height of 3,636 meters. Later a downhill trek to Rimbik ends the trek.

Green Lake Trek

Starting from Thangu village, the trek to Green lake passes through the magnificent Kanchenjunga National Park and also brings forth the scenery of the confluence of the Zemu Chu and Lachen Chu which are two very significant rivers of the region.

Do Drul Chorten
Located close to the Research Institute of Tibetology, Do Drul Chorten is a massive stupa that stands unique with a golden top dome. A lama from Tibet who followed Nyingma Order of Buddhism came to this place in his hermitage journey and established the stupa in 1946.
Encircled with a total of 108 prayer wheels, several small stupas around, it is one of the offbeat Sikkim tourist places, visible from many vantage points in Sikkim.

Ganesh Tok
Perched atop a hill at a height of 6500 ft. adjacent to the TV tower and close to Tashi Point, Ganesh Tok is a small temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha. You can get some unhindered views of the snow-capped peaks of Himalayas, especially the Kanchenjunga Peak from the viewing lounge which has a balcony and is fenced by glass panels.
It is one of the places to visit in Sikkim, away from the urban bustle, around 6 kilometers from the town of Gangtok. Reaching the inner sanctum requires you to climb a set of stairs, then crawl in the narrow passage to worship the idol of Lord Ganesha.

Green Lake which sits at about 16,000 feet above sea level is a major landmark where people mostly end their trek and return but as you move ahead crossing Yabuk and Rimbik, you will reach Zemu Glacier blanketed in snow at an elevation of 18,648 feet above sea level. Built as a tribute to the Hindu Lord Hanuman, this beautiful temple is frequented by countless tourists every year. It is widely believed that Lord Hanuman rested here briefly when he was carrying Sanjeevani to Lanka. The temple falls into the care of the Indian Army, which has maintained it remarkably.

Enchey Monastery
Founded in the 19th century, the monastery was initially owned by Lama Dhrupthob Karpo. It is also marked for its Chinese Pagoda design that makes it an architectural marvel. The monastery was rebuilt in the year 1908 by Kind Sikyong Tulku, however, and is now one of the most visited Sikkim tourist places.
Its current architecture is in line with China’s sacred mountain, which was known to be the spiritual dwelling of Jampelyang. The northern Buddhists believed him to be the God of Knowledge.

Banjhakri Waterfall is shaded beautifully within a lush forests sitting at a distance of 8 km from the main town of Gangtok.
